Adhd & Exercise

What are your favorite physical activities or exercises?

Hi subscribers /followers / moochers / readers / passers-by

It’s been a while, i have writers, block & life things that have been stressful & the latter.

Anyway, to answer this question as someone who does to exercise

I am speaking on my experience as an AuDHDer ( more so adhd )

As you know , i used to do weightlifting at home & eons ago when i used to go to the gym. 5 years of heavy lifting took its toll. Obviously, i was finally diagnosed with chronic nerve pain after being 2 years in pain and ignored & gaslit.

I went back to callisthenics got a portable pull up bar in 2022, but i did at the time do a mix of weights and callisthenics when i was still doing heavy weight training.

My favourite physical exercises with bodyweight training also with light weights & a weighted vest. Are pull ups & dips. And walking in a weighted vest or weights in a rucksack of 10kg.

Yes while i have chronic nerve pain i can’t do a much exercise as i used to. Or i end up with the brunt of it. Being adhd helps me calm and stimulate my brain & gives me dopamine. But its not the same for every adhd person ( some hate exercise or it does nothing for them)

I only workout 2hrs 3x a week, partly for stimulating my motor brain that never switches off, and for the autistic side of routine. But after that workout come dopamine gold. And exercise workout. My brain goes back to square one, until I take my medication.

Callisthenics is a great anywhere to do, be it in one of those parks with the bars or even in the streets or amongst nature.

I remember i couldn’t do 1 pull-up back in 2021. I can now do 20 to 50 ( 10 at time) and weighted dips. I am not a gymnastics person & all them cool tricks. I just do for routine & keeping fit, dopamine gold rush for my dopamine deficiency brain. And i enjoy the reward of working out and keeping fit. And not for aesthetics or six packs, etc. Yes, i have muscle and some gains, but it’s built over 7 years of workouts and nutrition & knowing my own body.

It works well for my autistic side & adhd side of me.

Anyway, that was long , but as per, I would like to explain from au AuDHDer point of view being an autistic writer & advocate.

P.s. It’s not the same for everyone whose ND. We are not linear folk.

Hope this answers your question

Kerri
